Search for the Lost Jedi Shortly before the beginning of Episode I, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi embark on a mission to find missing Jedi Master Adi Gallia, who was last headed to a factory world rumored to be manufacturing droid starfighters. Their mission uncovers a plot by alien assassins known as the Bartokk to steal fighters secretly being built for the Trade Federation. Little do the Bartokk know that this theft provokes action from all sides, as Darth Maul is sent in stealth to punish the thieves even as the Jedi themselves move to investigate. The true aim of the Bartokk is to complete a contract for a Hutt who wishes the Academy on Corulag destroyed. On Corulag, this plan is foiled, and the Academy saved. The production of droid starfighters and likely involvement of the Trade Federation becomes a concern for the Jedi Council, ending the story right before Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are sent to Naboo to begin the story of Episode I. The Jedi Council has lost contact with Master Adi Gallia on the planet Esseles in the Darpa Sector. A noted center for high-tech research and development, Esseles also became suspect as a center of manufacture for experimental droid starfighters. It is into this mystery that Adi Gallia disappeared, and that Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent with a mission to find her. The two Jedi succeed in recovering Adi Gallia, having to fight through the droid starfighter manufacturing facility which has been re-programmed to attack them. In actuality this was the doing of the Bartokk, an insectoid alien species. The Bartokk have managed to steal fifty of the new droid starfighters (note that these are "custom" droid starfighters, hyperdrive equipped, and not the same ships seen during Episode I). The Bartokk are infamous assassins and intend to use the fighters for a contract with the Hutts.

When word of the starfighter theft reaches Sith Lord Darth Sidious though his Neimoidian underlings, Sidious summons his apprentice Darth Maul. Maul discovers that the Bartokk are indeed to blame, but were hired by a Hutt with a fortress on the planet Ralltiir. Tracking them to this fortress, Maul allows himself to be captured. There the true plot is revealed: for reasons of personal vengeance, the Hutt hired Bartokk squads to destroy the famous Academy on the planet Corulag. Having gotten as close to the enemy as possible, Darth Maul strikes. Escaping the fortress he pursues the Bartokk freighter headed for Corulag. The freighter is destroyed, but not before it deploys 25 of the stolen droid starfighters, which fly on to continue their mission to destroy the academy. Over Corulag, Maul finds the Hutt's cruiser and boards it. Taking command of the droid starfighter control signal, he orders them to destroy the Hutt's ship and makes his escape, recovered droid starfighters in tow.
Someone has stolen something that belongs to Darth Sidious. Now he wants it back. And when a Sith Lord wants something, there's only one person he can trust to get it- another Sith Lord.

The Hutt has survived and orders the Bartokk to continue their mission to destroy the Academy. Meanwhile, Mace Windu and Yoda have traveled to Corulag to investigate an infant born with Jedi potential. They are soon joined by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who arrive on the scene sensing danger. And danger soon appears. Before long, the Jedi are surrounded by Bartokk warriors, who inform the Jedi that a bomb will soon destroy the Academy - and that many more will die if the Jedi continue to interfere. Fighting their way out, the Jedi defuse the bomb, rescue the infant, and destroy the Bartokk, putting and end to their reign of terror in the sector. As the Jedi Council discusses what has happened, they realize that they must keep a close watch on the Trade Federation because of their shadowy connection to the droid starfighters. Mace Windu receives a message from Chancellor Valorum urging him to send Jedi to the Naboo system. Realizing there may be more danger, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi leave immediately for Naboo, leading into the events of The Phantom Menace.
A young girl has been found who has the power to become a Jedi. But an evil scientist doesn't want to let her go, And her home is under attack by Bartokk assassins. Yoda, Mace Windu, and the other Jedi must save her. The future is at stake.
